Andrew Mukuba’s top landing spots in 2025 NFL draft | Underrated Safety offers huge upside

Texas Longhorns safety Andrew Mukuba is flying under the radar in the 2025 NFL draft. Here’s a little more about the underrated prospect ahead of the draft, and three ideal landing spots.

The Zimbabwe-born defensive back has incredible instincts as a coverage safety. Andrew Mukuba is currently expected to land somewhere on day two of the draft.

Andrew Mukuba Scouting report

The 2025 NFL draft’s safety class is a really good one. Multiple safeties could find themselves a home on day one, while others such as Andrew Mukuba and Iowa’s Sebastian Castro are expected to be drafted on day two.

Mukuba is a rare blend of athleticism and speed in coverage mixed with a confident instinct while playing against the run. His film suggests he can play the high safety role with a great read on the game, and then break on the ball to close space on pass catchers in a hurry.

His versatility as somebody you can line up as a single high safety or stack the box will appeal to several defensive coordinators. Some NFL teams need a safety who can wear multiple hats depending on the scheme and situation, and Mukuba should satisfy that need as a pro.

The four-year college talent spent his first three seasons at Clemson. He was an immediate starter his freshman year with over 1,500 snaps at safety for the Tigers.

Mukuba transferred to the Univesity of Texas ahead of the 2024 season, returning to his hometown to play for the team he’d always dreamed of. He posted four interceptions and six pass break ups while playing alongside some of the best defensive backs in the draft.

Andrew Mukuba best landing spots in 2025 nfl draft

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills re-signed Damar Hamlin on a one-year $2 million contract this off-season, but ideally they’ll use him on special teams.

Cole Bishop joined the franchise in the second round of last years draft, but he’s more tailored to the role Taylor Rapp plays on the strong side of the defense.

Pairing Rapp/Bishop with Andrew Mukuba feels like an improvement in the Buffalo Bills safety room, adding a versatile piece to a defense looking to slow the likes of Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow in the playoffs.

Kansas City chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs lost safety Justin Reid to a free agency contract with the New Orleans Saints this off-season, and will need to consider retooling at safety through the draft.

Reid won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs before leaving for New Orleans, and his replacement is currently set to be Jaden Hicks, a fourth-rounder selected in the 2024 draft.

Ideally, Bryan Cook would play the strong safety role while the Chiefs add another DB who can play over the top. At the back end of round two Andrew Mukuba would be a perfect fit.

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas desperately need to add to their secondary, particularly at safety. Donovan Wilson showed flashes of a starting caliber talent in the past two seasons, but he was lacking any real consistency.

Mukuba would likely be a day-one starter for the Cowboys. He’d likely pair with Malik Hooker early in his career, offering that veteran presence and leadership while the rookie acclimates to the league.
