Jalen Milroe’s Rising NFL Draft Stock: Best Fits for 2025 draft

Jalen Milroe’s draft projection continues to rise as the 2025 NFL draft draws closer. In one of the draft experts latest mocks, Milroe lands very early on day two with a quarterback hungry team. That mock draft got me thinking.

What are the top quarterbacks best fits, and of the teams that need a quarterback, how many have the means to nurture Jalen Milroe?

While we debate the QB landing spots in the 2025 draft, the Alabama quarterback does have some visits lined up. He’s already been to meet with the Cleveland Browns, and will continue his tour this week with visits with the New York Giants, L.A. Rams and Seattle Seahawks.

2025 NFL draft quarterback rankings

  1. Cam Ward – Miami
  2. Shedeur Sanders – Colorado
  3. Jalen Milroe – Alabama
  4. Jaxson Dart – Ole Miss
  5. Will Howard – Ohio State

The list of NFL QB prospects in the 2025 draft is an interesting one this year. Will Howard won the National Championship with the Ohio State Buckeyes, but he isn’t viewed as a top-two-round quarterback. Jaxson Dart has the room divided on his potential as a future starter in the NFL, and there’s a genuine conversation around Shedeur Sanders slipping out of the top five.

But then, there’s Jalen Milroe. He spent four years at Alabama, starting the final two. He showed flashes of elite level talent, posting over 800 rushing yards in back-to-back seasons, with a stunning 32 rushing touchdowns.

On the ground, he’s Josh Allen, just faster and more agile. The concerns with Milroe’s game come with his accuracy as a passer, and the ability to protect the football. Yes he scored 32 rushing touchdowns in two seasons, but he also fumbled the ball 24 times in that same span, and threw 17 interceptions on top.

There’s no doubt Jalen Milroe can play. He’s electric when he’s on, but his game reminds me of Anthony Richardson.

Richardson had some jaw dropping moments at Florida. He’s got a cannon for an arm, and once in a while he connected on a crazy throw. But ‘once in a while’ doesn’t win NFL games, and as much as I’ve been rooting for Anthony Richardson’s success, the inconsistencies have been more than obvious in his time in Indianapolis.

So what do NFL teams do with Jalen Milroe? He isn’t the type of player you can start right away, and much like the Colts should have done with Richardson, I’d like to see him sit an entire year before the team that drafts him even considers putting him in the game. He needs time to develop.

New york giants

Expert analyst Mel Kiper’s latest mock draft has the New York Giants selecting Jalen Milroe with the 34th pick in the early second round. It still feels a little early to me, but for the Giants it makes a lot of sense.

Given the position of the franchise and its underachieving nature in recent years, there is no doubt in my mind that any kind of losing record in 2025 will result in the firing of just about everybody on the staff.

Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll need to show ownership that they have a hold on the franchise’s future. There’s a good chance they miss out on both Cam Ward AND Shedeur Sanders should the two quarterbacks go one and two. If that’s the case, the Giants need to take the best player available and revisit the quarterback situation later.

The Giants are in the perfect spot to select the dual threat quarterback in the 2025 draft. They have the 34th pick early on day two. Plus, they’ve signed both Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, creating a quarterback room that can nurture and teach a young rookie, without pressuring him to play.

Landing with the Giants would be the best case scenario for Jalen Milroe in the 2025 NFL draft. He can take the time he needs to develop. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Giants trade up into the late first round to get him either, mainly for the extra year on the contract, just like the Ravens did with Lamar Jackson.

New York Jets

I hope Jalen Milroe’s been considering life in the North East, because there’s a strong chance one of the New York teams drafts him.

While the Giants have two veterans on the roster, the Jets went a slightly different route, looking to squeeze the NFL starter potential out of Justin Fields on a two year contract.

The Jets threw $40 million at Justin Fields in the hopes he finally realises his potential in the NFL, but they don’t exactly have a backup plan if he doesn’t. It’s only a two year deal, and if that plans fails miserably (the Jets have been there before), there’s a chance they cut ties after just one season.

The only remaining option for the Jets is Tyrod Taylor, who is currently set to be a free agent at the end of the season.

If the Jets do draft Milroe though, there’s a far higher chance he’s forced onto the field as a rookie. Don’t get me wrong I don’t doubt Milroe will be dying to play, but should he?

The Jets don’t exactly have a bright history of developing young quarterbacks…

New Orleans saints

Kellen Moore just won a Super Bowl with Jalen Hurts, before taking the job as the head coach of the New Orleans Saints.

Moore’s offensive system has always been a unique combination of playstyles, but the year he just had with Jalen Hurts leads me to believe he’d be the perfect fit for Jalen Milroe.

Hurts threw the ball less in 2024, but had the best quarterback rating of his career. The Eagles leant into the run and of course the addition of Saquon Barkley helped tremendously, but Hurts had one of the best years of his career on the ground.

If the Saints pair Jalen Milroe with a standout running back like Alvin Kamara, and whoever Kamara’s successor will be, I think it could work in a Kellen Moore style offense. When it comes to QB draft fits in 2025, this one is screaming at me.

Milroe could then maximise his potential as a running threat, while drawing up plays with his offensive staff that put him in the best position to succeed.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see the Saints draft Jalen Milroe with the 40th pick, and then allow him to sit behind Derek Carr. Kellen Moore is going to want his own guy for the job he’s been working towards for years as an NFL head coach. That might mean Spencer Rattler gets traded to make room.
