Howie Roseman’s draft-day brilliance could be a significant factor once again as the Super Bowl champions look to build on their budding legacy. What does the genius GM have in mind for the Eagles 2025 NFL draft?
It’s already been a busy off-season in Philadelphia, with the team gearing up to defend their Super Bowl win in the upcoming 2025 season. These are the Eagles draft picks in 2025.
Will we see more NFL draft day trades in 2025 from the Eagles? Let’s take a look at their draft day history, potential targets and the Eagles roster needs in 2025.
What players are leaving the Eagles?
Several key players are leaving the Eagles this off-season. Brandon Graham announced his retirement following the Super Bowl win, going out on top as one of the greatest Eagles players in franchise history. Among other Eagles off-season moves, Darius Slay was released and CJ Gardner-Johnson traded to the Houston Texans as they look to get younger in the secondary. Kenny Pickett was traded to the Cleveland Browns.
Eagles Draft Day Trade History
Howie Roseman has been one of the most thrilling general managers to watch in recent years, particularly around the NFL draft. Roseman’s draft day trades have been incredibly influential, including the multi-trade phenomenon he pulled off in 2016 to draft Carson Wentz second overall. The Eagles had originally held the 13th overall pick that year.
In 2018, a trade down with the Baltimore Ravens that would lead to them drafting Lamar Jackson 32nd overall. The Eagles GM traded down to 52 that year as part of the Lamar deal, before trading back up to 49 to select tight end Dallas Goedert. He manouvered his way into drafting standout tackle Jordan Mailata 233rd overall that year too, trading up with the New England Patriots to scoop the Australian mauler in the 7th round.
2021, Roseman jumped up two spots in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys. He took the Eagles from 12 to 10, and selected Heisman Trophy winning wide receiver DeVonta Smith out of Alabama.
Let’s just take a moment to revel in DeVonta’s Alabama highlights…
Then in 2022, another very active draft with the package deal sent to the Houston Texans for the 13th pick in the draft. Roseman drafted DT Jordan Davis with that pick, but it turned out to be the second biggest move he made during the 2022 NFL draft.
Howie Roseman’s draft strategy always seems to outperform itself though. He then sent the 18th overall pick and the 101 to the Tennessee Titans, acquiring superstar receiver A.J. Brown on draft night. The trade stunned the NFL world, and it’s one of the most memorable draft day trades in recent history.
2023 was more of the same, with Roseman sending a haul to the Chicago Bears in order to leapfrog them into the number nine pick, and draft Jalen Carter to pair with Jordan Davis on the defensive line.
Later that same draft he sought out a trade with the Detroit Lions almost immediately after they selected Jahmyr Gibbs at running back in the first round. That selection meant D’Andrew Swift might be available, and Roseman got there first with a fourth-round pick and a 7th round swap getting a deal done for the running back.
2025 NFL draft scenarios
There are three certainties in life. Death, taxes, and Howie Roseman making trades on draft day. Here are three NFL draft trade scenarios for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Trade for Foyesade OLuokun – Middle Linebacker, Jacksonville Jaguars
Foyesade Oluokon has been one of the leagues most consistent tacklers in recent years. He cleared 100 tackles for three straight seasons including his fourth and final year with the Atlanta Falcons and the first two he spent in Jacksonville with the Jaguars.
Philadelphia hit the jackpot with the signing of Zach Baun, and rewarded him with a new contract following his sensational 2024 campaign. Nakobe Dean had an exceptional year and should have a very bright future with the Eagles, but he did miss the later rounds of the playoffs and the Super Bowl with a knee injury.
Oluokun provides insurance, and a tremendous pairing for Zach Baun in what would quickly become one of the most trustworthy linebacker duos in the NFL. His cap hit for the 2025 season is just shy of $12 million, which feels like a great deal for the production he puts on tape.
As a reminder, he had 170 tackles in 2022… and 126 the following year. On a loaded Eagles defense, he’s a plug and play backer.
Should Foye Oluokun’s name feature in Philadelphia Eagles trade rumours? Absolutely.
Sign Justin Simmons – safety
Justin Simmons remains a free agent heading into the month of April. Considering the CJ Gardner-Johnson trade, safety now seems to be the weakest point on the roster in Philadelphia.
Signing Simmons to a veteran one-year deal seems like smart business, and the two have been heavily linked with one another because of that. The move would mean the Eagles draft capital can be spent elsewhere, perhaps on a luxury pick like a wide receiver…
Trade up for Luther Burden III – wide receiver, missouri
Luther Burden III is an exceptional talent and his name has started to creep into the conversation of Eagles first-round targets. The recent acquisition of Jahan Dotson noted the Eagles desire to have a strong third option behind DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown. Given the impressive state of the roster as it stands, Philly could absolutely afford to spend their first-rounder and change on a luxury pick like the star out of Missouri.
Burden is a yards-after-contact machine, something that would add another element to the receiver room when targeting anybody other than A.J. Brown or DeVonta Smith. Good luck to any defense trying to cover all three with any level of success.
There is a chance he’s available with the 32nd pick, which would be a very interesting opportunity for Philly. But, if receivers start to go in the early 20s, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Howie jump up a few spots to get him.
